barn garden, Kent
Mind, Body, Spirit

This garden belongs to a family who wanted to create a private restorative space to relax, play, entertain and be in nature.
As phase one of a larger project, immersive Mediterranean-style planting was designed around a generous terrace to stimulate the senses and to provide on-going seasonal interest. Carefully-curated perennials in a soft colour palette provide texture and soothing scent – reminiscent of long summers spent at the client’s family home in the South of France. Climbing roses with clematis and star jasmine clothe and soften the façade of the 16th century converted barn while pittosporum balls and pleached hornbeams create a structural framework. A wide expanse of lawn was transformed with a glade of striking multi-stem birches – underplanted with a seasonal succession of glowing white flowers which evoke a woodland atmosphere. A central reflective pool is nestled within a relaxed, tranquil planting that links it with its surroundings.

“Our garden overlooking the High Weald was in need of a much-needed makeover when we met Sally and Tory. They immediately set to work to understand our requirements and ideas before providing us with a detailed brief of their proposal. This was delivered on time and with great attention to detail. Sally and Tory are both consummate professionals and highly knowledgeable in their field of horticulture. As a team they brought fun, inspiration and creativity to their work; it has been a great pleasure working on this project with Sally and Tory and we cannot wait to see the garden reveal itself across the seasons.”
