HAYDON HOLDER STUDIO AWARDED GOLD MEDAL FOR LONG BORDER AT RHS FLOWER SHOW WENTWORTH WOODHOUSE 2025
We are delighted to share that Tory Haydon and Sally Holder were awarded a Gold Medal for their Long Border at RHS Flower Show Wentworth Woodhouse 2025, titled What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare?
The border was inspired by the concept of Restorative Landscapes and designed to promote wellbeing through a deeper connection with nature. Taking its title from William H. Davies’ poem Leisure, the design reflected the natural beauty of local, flower-rich meadows. It offered visitors a gentle moment of pause — an invitation to slow down, awaken the senses and reconnect with the natural world.
Sally Holder, designer and co-founder of Haydon Holder Studio, said:
“We were absolutely thrilled to be awarded a Gold Medal and to be part of the inaugural RHS Flower Show at Wentworth Woodhouse. It was a wonderful opportunity to share our work with a wider audience in the North of England. Inspired by the Yorkshire landscape, the border celebrated natural beauty — evoking fields ablaze with wildflowers and the shifting light across a hillside.”
Tory Haydon, designer and co-founder of Haydon Holder Studio, added:
“In our fast-paced world, we believe gardens are more than beautiful spaces — they play an important role in supporting mental health and wellbeing. Our border was a gentle reminder that when we are always rushing, we risk missing the very things that bring us joy and perspective. We all need time to stand and stare — to reconnect with nature, and in doing so, with ourselves.”
We were privileged to work with exceptional perennial plants supplied by Holden Clough Nurseries, Master Grower at RHS Tatton Park Flower Show 2023. We also collaborated with David Austin Roses to showcase the exquisite Rosa ‘Tottering-by-Gently’, whose lightness and charm perfectly captured the spirit of the design.
